Assembly Room Theatre renamed in honour of former Chancellor Sir Thomas Allen

We’ve renamed our city centre venue, the Assembly Rooms Theatre, in honour of our former Chancellor and world-renowned opera singer, Sir Thomas Allen. The venue will now be known as the Sir Thomas Allen Assembly Rooms Theatre.

Our Vice-Chancellor and Warden, Professor Karen O’Brien has been consistent in her vision to meet as many of our alumni and supporter communities as possible. The latest chapter of this plan took her to the USA recently to meet alumni, friends and colleagues at receptions in San Francisco, Seattle and New York.

Fellowship honour for two leading academics

We’re celebrating the news that Professor Deborah Riby from our Department of Psychology, and Associate Professor Nadia Siddiqui from our School of Education, have both been elected to Fellowship of the Academy of Social Sciences, in recognition of excellence in their respective fields, and their wider contributions to the social sciences for public benefit.

Stuart Hunt has been appointed as Director of Library Services and Collections and University Librarian. He will begin his role on 1 December 2023.
